Jesus identified the leaven as the insincerity and hypocrisy of the of the Pharisees. They observed outward ceremonies of religion without inner and character transformation. Many today have the appearance of obedience to codes and regulations without corresponding piety. The Pharisees always gathered to listen to Jesus with sinister motives. Jesus knew and still knows what is in the heart of man. He knew that the multitude that gathered did not come to be helped out of their spiritual blindness. *Text: ZECHARIAH 14:12-21* *KEY VERSE: "And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth. (Zechariah 14:12)* God has never hidden His love for Israel. He’s always there for them. Israel has always been marked out for destruction by the enemy nations but the more they tried, the more God’s grace abounded for Israel. Though He allowed Israel to be oppressed by their enemies as punishment for their sin, He would rescue them at the nick of time. In the passage today, God expresses His determination to avenge for Israel. It was a promise of deliverance from the oppression of the wicked nations round about Jerusalem.
